Abstract:

This session is intended to share our experience in integrating data from multiple sources to develop unified quality metrics dashboard for strategy planning and performance improvement. A Healthcare Quality Dashboard provides critical insights of patient safety, quality and outcomes of patient care, and patient satisfaction. Reports from CMS Star Rating, Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, US News and World Report Best Hospitals Ranking, Becker’s hospital review, Vizient Quality and Accountability Calculator, are overwhelming to keep track and comprehend due to variations in performance periods and score calculation methodologies. We compare various healthcare quality dashboards in terms of three aspects: 1) type of measures collected (structure, process, outcomes); 2) type of variables collected (continuous, categorical, composite score); 3) various statistical methodologies utilized in benchmarking and corresponding pros and cons. In particular, we investigated different statistical methods for risk-adjustment and additional inpatient characteristics may be included to enhance benchmarking. Our goal is to ensure fair and accurate inter-hospital comparisons as much as possible.
