Abstract #312535
Title: Understanding P-Values Through Interactive Online Activities
Author(s): Shonda Kuiper*
Companies: Grinnell College
Keywords: p-values; games; undergraduate research; online; simulations; interdisciplinary
Abstract:

Through our current National Science Foundation project, we are creating free interactive web-based activities that help students better understand the proper use and interpretation of p-values. Through this work, students have input on their own individualized research question, collect data, clean data, build appropriate models, assess their models, and communicate the results to their peers. Using these inquiry-based materials, students are better able to articulate the reasoning behind the six principles from the American Statistical Association’s “Statement on Statistical Significance and P-Values” in a context that is meaningful to them.
