The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) recently added several new modules to its extensive system of online data training modules to introduce information seekers to NCES and to provide easy access and use of its data. The NCES Distance Learning Dataset Training system (search ‘NCES DLDT’) system is compatible with personal computers as well as Android and IOS tablets. This session provides guidance and advice on using these readily available online modules and tools to get an overview of NCES’ rich data resources and learn about and navigate a myriad of NCES survey and administrative data sets. Specifically, the NCES DLDT provides information about NCES data and the tools that users need in order to find published reports, create custom tables and analyses using free NCES online tools, explore and acquire data, create custom data files, understand NCES’ complex survey designs and content, and conduct analyses in selected statistical software packages. In addition, these modules can be a useful supplement to class materials when teaching practical complex survey design and analysis.
