Title: Testing Equality of Means with Non-Symmetrically Spaced Percentiles
Author(s): Yvonne Zubovic*
Companies: Purdue University Fort Wayne
Keywords: sample percentiles; non-symmetrically spaced
Abstract:

A procedure is developed to test for the equality of means from k Normal populations, where k > 2, based solely on percentiles from independently selected samples. In previous work a function of symmetrically spaced sample percentiles was used to test for equality. This work extends the test to the case that only non-symmetrically spaced percentiles are available from the k samples. Variances are assumed to be equal but sample sizes and which specific percentiles are available can differ across samples. While the test statistic is derived using asymptotic results, the performance of the test is evaluated using simulation under the small sample size setting.
