Explicit methods for causal inference are being thrust to the forefront of many environmental epidemiological debates, particularly those relating to air pollution. This roundtable will discuss whether and, if so, how, statisticians working within environmental epidemiology should meet emerging challenges of estimating health implications of environmental exposures.
