Abstract:

The data revolution has transformed the conduct of social science research through the incorporation of data science, but ethical dimensions should not be compromised. For example, social science researchers can repurpose existing administrative and opportunity data without consent or awareness by those providing the data. Discussions about ethics need to be a natural part of every research project, both in terms of research ethics and ethical studies. At this roundtable, we will discuss the necessity of thinking about ethics when doing data science.
