Title: How Do Bibliometric Measures Affect NIH Funding?

Abstract:

This paper builds on work by Ginther et al (2018) which found that bibliometric measures explained half of the race/ethnicity gap in NIH funding. Using machine learning techniques, we compare the predictive ability of several bibliometrics measures including the h-index, impact factor-weighted publications, the crown weighted citation score, multi-authored h-index, age weighted citation index, and the relative citation ratio. Our results are designed to shed light on which bibliometric measures predict the likelihood of receiving an NIH R01 research award.
