We will explore the roles that statisticians and data scientists can bring to address the compelling issues in public health facing contemporary society. In particular, we focus on two current public health challenges: gun safety and opioid epidemic. In this session, we will discuss the opportunities and needs for statistical efforts and to engage a substantial number of statisticians to work across disciplinary lines to help in mitigating the effects of gun violence and addressing the opioid epidemic.
