Abstract:
|
The Federal Committee on Statistical Methodology was founded in 1975 from the office of the Chief Statistician of the U.S. as an interagency committee dedicated to improving the quality of federal statistics. Its statistical policy and research conferences are among the few large-scale gatherings across the federal statistical community and its partners in academia and the private sector. These events are one significant aspect of coordinating the work of the statistical system. The Council of Professional Associations on Federal Statistics (COPAFS) has been a partner in staging these conferences for many years. Its historical role has allowed sustainability and broad, large-scale participation otherwise unlikely. Yet the conferences have put a strain on COPAFS own limited resources and as the benefits of these events become more apparent, we will need to identify creative solutions to permit the periodicity and scope desired to meet needs of a large and diverse statistical system community and its partners.
