Abstract:

Have you ever wondered what ASA does for the community, and how can you be part of it? How do you engage with a section of interest or the chapter in your region? How are committee members selected and how do the committees operate? How can you participate in meetings or in the publication process? This invited panel session is for you. We will bring the experts within ASA to share their knowledge and experience to answer these questions. This invited session will include an overview of the ASA, including its governance, meetings, publications and community outreach in order to highlight how every member can have an impact on ASA's activities supporting research, education, advocacy, career development, and outreach in the practice of statistics. As part of a new initiative of the Committee on Applied Statisticians, this session hopes to help new and less involved members become more engaged with the organization.
