Abstract:

We propose a novel model for time series data that exhibit a strong growth pattern that peaks and then plateaus into a confluent state. We are particularly interested in estimating the change point from growth to confluence, extracting the growth trend, and statistically characterizing the confluent state, including its long-memory dependence. We consider both economic and biophysical applications to illustrate our approach.
