Growing access to big electronic medical record (EMR) data in healthcare has created opportunity for optimizing healthcare delivery. However, these data sets are so large and complex that they are difficult (or impossible) to manage with traditional software and/or hardware; nor can they be easily managed with traditional or common data management tools and methods. These projects also often necessitate strong collaboration between a variety of quantitative scientists (Biostatisticians, data scientists, informaticians, etc) . At this round table join Madhu Mazumdar, director of Institute for Healthcare Delivery Science at Mount-Sinai School of Medicine, to talk about these challenges and the emerging collaborative model that is helping to optimize care at a large healthcare system. What is the EMR system at your institution? How do you deal with its limitations? What care delivery questions are you struggling with? What methods do you find most useful? What kind of quantitative scientists are you collaborating with? We will share experiences and ideas for making the most out of team collaborations. Examples of impactful predictive analytics and randomized studies will be provided.
