The Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education (GAISE) College Report (original 2005, revised 2016) enumerate nine goals for students and six recommendations for achieving those goals. This report and its goals and recommendations have both reflected and shaped much of the innovation in statistics education over the last two decades -- at least when one focuses on the traditional introductory statistics course.
But the goals and recommendations for introductory statistics courses can be applied to advanced courses as well. We will take a look at GAISE through the lens of a major program in statistics, especially focusing on how following GAISE could shape what we do in the "probability and mathematical statistics sequence" that is a component of most undergraduate statistics programs.
