Abstract:
|
Risk assessment tools are a class of models used with increasing frequency in the US criminal justice system to classify individuals pending trial according to their predicted risk of failing to appear for court dates and/or committing a subsequent crime. The Human Rights Data Analysis Group (HRDAG) works with the San Francisco Public Defender's Office (SFPD) to examine the effect of a common risk assessment tool. This talk will cover questions and concerns raised by the SFPD and others about the implementation of risk assessment in San Francisco and the subsequent analyses conducted by HRDAG to better understand the effect of this tool in the community.
