Recent work by Aksoy, et al.\ and Young, et al.\ has advocated a "network-of-networks" approach to analyzing the graphical properties of the transmission layer of the power system. The network-of-networks viewpoint analyzes the power system as a collection of fixed voltage networks connected into a larger overall power networks via transformers. It has been shown that graphical properties of these fixed voltage networks such as diameter and average shortest path length are remarkably consistent, independently of voltage level or originating network. This work investigates the extent to which the graphical properties of the fixed voltage subgraphs can be explained by geographical restrictions.
