Abstract:

Environmental managers are interested in the composition of species in waterways in northern Queensland, Australia. Traditionally, the sampling of the species has been recorded on a regular time frequency. However, the locations for sampling are limited in access making the process expensive. Due to constraints on available resources, cost, and time, limited sampling decreases the precision of parameter estimates of our model. We propose a novel approach to selecting sampling times based on the dynamics associated with the populations of species residing in the site. This employs the use of experimental design techniques to determine the optimal design points that maximize the information extracted from the data.
