Abstract:

The revised Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education (GAISE) (ASA, 2016) and the Curriculum Guidelines for Undergraduate Programs in Statistical Science (ASA, 2014) both underscore the importance of introducing students to multivariable data sets early in their undergraduate program. Additionally, with the growing field of data science, exploratory data analysis has become an even more important skill for data practitioners. Data visualization is a simple and efficient way to introduce multivariable thinking and to give students more experience with exploratory data analysis in real-world settings. We will discuss how we incorporated multivariable data visualization into the introductory course using the popular data visualization software Tableau.
