Abstract:
|
Growing access to large databases of survey, administrative and hospital discharge data sets is facilitating a whole new wave of methods and applied work to answer critical questions about health care delivery, disparity and outcomes. At this round table join Ruth Etzioni, chair of the Health Policy Statistics Section and former standing member of the Health Services Outcomes and Delivery (HSOD) study section of the NIH to talk about the universe of large health data resources for health services and health outcomes research. What is your favorite dataset? How do you deal with its limitations? What methods do you find most useful? And what data do you wish you had at your fingertips? We will share experiences and ideas for making the most of the data out there that we don't have to pay (much) for and for creating partnerships that might provide us with the data on our wish list. Along the way we will talk about many types of studies that fall under the umbrella of health policy research and define the many ways statisticians can play a role.
