Abstract:
|
Beach volleyball is a preferred setting to explore the effect of player skill set combinations on team performance because teams consist of two players instead of six, as in indoor volleyball. We assessed which factors are most important for assembling an optimum beach volleyball team by examining various combinations of skill set types. We gathered and processed over 100,000 individual “touches” by male players from the 2016 Rio Olympics and compared the results to simulated results generated from a Markov chain framework. Having validated our simulated results, we derive an optimum beach volleyball team based on the skill sets of the individual players who performed best in our simulated team performances.
