Title: Report Building: SAS and Microsoft Word VBA Made Easy
Author(s): Scott Kreider*

Keywords: SAS; VBA; Report
Abstract:

The joint use of SAS and Word VBA is not a new topic, however generating review-ready and fully formatted reports within SAS alone can be clunky and somewhat convoluted. A collection of intuitive, easy-to-use SAS and Word VBA macros involves incorporating customizable style guide editing using style tags, dynamic section, table, and figure numbering, and more. The underlying code is also easily updateable to allow for varying style guide characteristics. A number of synergistic SAS and Word VBA macros have been created to seamlessly work together to produce a delivery-ready statistical report by incorporating style guide elements in order to reduce manual editing. Further extension of this code, including the utilization of calling the command prompt to run batch files for running the Word VBA code, all within SAS, lends itself to generating an almost fully automated product with minimal manual work and is easily reusable for future projects. The use of these SAS and VBA macros leads to an easy creation of a fully-formatted statistical report with minimal manual updates. This greatly reduces the chance for errors and increases the ability to automate previous manual processes.
