Title: How to Talk Statistics to Clinicians
Author(s): Christine Gause*

Keywords: communication; clinical colleagues; statistical concepts
Abstract:

Statisticians working in the pharmaceutical industry in late development need to collaborate with colleagues in cross-functional teams to develop drugs and vaccines in a timely manner. One of the most crucial collaborations is with clinicians, who have the essential knowledge of the disease area under study. With the increasing complexity of statistics used in late development, it is critical for statisticians to be able to communicate statistical concepts for study design, data analysis, and interpretation of results in an understandable way to non-statisticians. In this presentation, tips for explaining statistical concepts to clinical colleagues with varying levels of statistical knowledge will be presented. Practical examples of successful and less than successful explanations will be provided.
