Abstract:

The end goal of our research project is to be able to look at a certain group of people and decide whether they will be for or against fluoride being added to the public water supply. For example, we want to be able to decide, given that a person is conservative, around 30 years old, and religious, if that person is in favor of water fluoridation. We also want to find which arguments are the most persuasive to change the mind of someone with a different view. To achieve this, we use Python to scrape data from media websites, find entropy values and use sentiment analysis, and use these values to make a decision tree. After all of this is completed, our research group will work with an economics professor to see if water fluoridation is economically sound given who is in favor of it.
