Abstract:

On Mathematics Genealogy site I am PhD student number 62 out of 65 for David Blackwell. I will discuss what happened, and what a privilege it was for me to be his student before moving on to survey a bit of his work from my perspective. I hope to discuss set theory, topology, measure theory, game theory, renewal theory, statistical decision theory, and Markov processes, inter alia; obviously I won't have time! But I do hope to have time to give a flavour for a style of paper writing belonging to a mind "not interested in research, [but] in understanding".
