Title: From Statistics to Artificial Intelligence: The Evolution of Data Science
Author(s): Robert J McGrath*

Keywords: Data Science; Ethics; Interdisciplinary; Applied
Abstract:

Data Science is a new academic discipline that universities are integrating in highly varied ways. This new discipline, which is still grounded in the fundamentals of statistics, has required that universities consider concepts like interdisciplinary degrees, external funding and multi-party collaboration in new ways. These concepts, in the context of Data Science, are challenging the way academics think about education, workforce development and preparing the next generation of educators. The outcomes of these discussions have implications for other disciplines - particularly for statistics.
