Abstract:

Scholarship of teaching and learning (SOTL) is an emerging field of scholarly thought and entails applying science to the teaching and learning process of statistics. SOTL can be interesting, fun, rewarding, and familiar. In this talk I will describe steps that statistics educators in the health sciences can take with applying statistical thinking and reasoning to explore this relatively new area. I will provide examples from my own research with publications about statistics education in the health sciences, describe the new section of the Journal of Statistics Education focused on health sciences statistics education research, and discuss strategies for statistics educators to develop SOTL scholarship.
