Title: Give Your Statistician Colleague Iris Bulbs for Their House Warming!
Author(s): Dianne Cook*
Companies: Monash University
Keywords: data science; visualization; machine learning; data mining
Abstract:

The iris data is a classic in Statistics, and has blossomed into a model data set in computer science, and data science. It can be found as the example data in many R packages, and many journal articles. Where did this data come from, why has it persisted in the field, and adopted by many other fields. What makes a data set gain immortality for scientists?
