Keywords: Official Statistics; Public confidence; National Statistics
Abstract:

There has recently been an increase in questions on the credibility of government statistics. For example, the unemployment numbers published by the U.S. Department of Labor are often said to be incorrect, biased, fake, or not trustworthy. This is an important topic, given recent events in the U.S., Rwanda, Greece, and Argentina. This session will feature leaders from national Canadian and U.S. agencies that produce official statistics. These leaders will speak about how their organizations maintain public confidence in the official statistics they produce.
