Abstract #329181
Title: Data Scraping, Parsing, Wrangling, and Cleaning
Author(s): Mark Daniel Ward*
Companies: Purdue University
Keywords: data scraping; parsing; wrangling; cleaning; data analysis; data science
Abstract:

We will discuss some tools and techniques for data analysis. We have introduced such topics to undergraduate and graduate students for roughly one decade. These tools require no programming background. We also suggest hands-on, data-driven examples. Such examples can be used for honing data analysis skills with students or with teams of colleagues who want to (re-)sharpen their computational skills on the job. Anyone who introduces students to data analysis, or who wants to improve their own skills for scraping data from the web, parsing the data into the desired pieces, wrangling the data into shape, and cleaning the data, should find this session as a useful introduction.
