Abstract:

Can we use principles of visualization and analytics to help students experience the value of user-driven design? This poster demonstrates a student-facing interactive dashboard that shows students their course progress during the term. Most LMSs report scores on exams and assignments, and optionally show class averages and ranking. This dashboard elevates the reporting in a visual way that can display the variability in class data for given assignments and over time. The interactivity and visualization permit students to enter the role of user as well as learner, and as such, have the potential for making course lessons more salient. A prototype is in use during Spring 2018 term, and I should be able to report impacts by JSM.
