Abstract:

For statisticians to have successful collaborations with researchers from other fields, it is essential that statisticians explain statistical concepts to researchers in a manner that can be easily understood. If statisticians explain statistical methodology at too high a level, researchers will not fully grasp the concepts and thus will be unable to explain their statistical results to others. In this panel session, statisticians, who have made great contributions in the areas of teaching statistics and statistical consulting, come together to discuss strategies for explaining difficult statistical concepts in a way that is most beneficial to the understanding of researchers. Focus will also be given to how we train future statisticians to become effective communicators of statistical concepts.
