Abstract:

The LISA 2020 program seeks to maximize the extraordinary impact of statistics by inspiring, training, mentoring, and supporting statisticians in developing countries to create statistical collaboration laboratories that train statisticians to become effective, interdisciplinary collaborators who can move between theory and practice to solve problems for real-world impact; serve as research infrastructure to enable and accelerate research and data-based decisions that make a positive impact on society; and teach short courses and workshops to improve statistical skills and literacy widely. With eight statistical collaboration laboratories created so far, the LISA 2020 program is well on its way toward its goal of creating a network of 20 statistical collaboration laboratories in developing countries by the year 2020. This poster will outline the mission of the LISA 2020 program, its progress, what we have learned so far, next steps, and how more statisticians can contribute to its mission to build statistics capacity in developing countries to help local researchers, businesses, and policy makers apply statistics to innovate local solutions for local problems.
