Abstract:
|
Recent reports from the National Academies and the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology have raised questions about the scientific basis for testimony regarding some types of forensic evidence. Statistical principles regarding data collection, data analysis and reporting of analyses are critical to insuring evidence is assessed and presented appropriately. The talk reviews how careful evaluation of forensic data and different hypotheses regarding the source of crime scene evidence can improve forensic practice.
