Abstract:

Since 2008, Statistics Without Borders (SWB) has collaborated on projects, worldwide, to provide pro bono expert help in research, statistical analyses, and survey design. This session will highlight some recent SWB projects that helped organizations in resource planning and management of recent crises worldwide. We will present how these collaborations work by highlighting projects exemplifying processes SWB used to help members identify needs then aggregate and understand data using visualizations and dashboards to provide focus for their decision making processes.

In the European Migrant Crises, SWB teamed with UN OCHA-HDX to use openly available data to revolutionize disaster relief and save lives. This team will discuss this collaboration, data visualization and dissemination of the results.

For the Global Shelter Cluster and DHN Nepal project SWB members teamed with Global Shelter Cluster and DHN Nepal to look at winter shelter for survivors of the April 25, 2015 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Gokha, Nepal which impacted the nearby capital of Kathmandu. This team will discuss the design, collection, management, analysis, creation of a Nepal Shelter Winterization Dashboard
