Abstract:

The Commission on Evidence-Based Policymaking was established by the bipartisan Evidence-Based Policymaking Commission Act of 2016. The mission of the Commission was to develop a strategy for increasing the availability and use of data in order to build evidence about government programs, while protecting privacy and confidentiality. The Commission submitted its final report to Congress and the President in September 2017. This session will discuss the Commission's findings and recommendations, and will examine the impact those recommendations have made since the report was released. During this session, Katherine Abraham (Chair of the Commission) and Nancy Potok (Commissioner and Chief Statistician of the United States) will discuss their experiences serving on the Commission, and Julia Lane (New York University) and Amy O'Hara (Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research) will discuss their perspectives on how effective the Commission's recommendations will be on improving evidence-based policymaking.
