The Laboratory for Analytic Sciences (LAS) is a unique partnership that applies quantitative methodology and data science to improve national security. Led by the National Security Agency and North Carolina State University, it partners broadly across academia, industry, and government. LAS works on projects at the intersection of technology and tradecraft, the end-to-end processes an intelligence analyst uses to answer questions. All projects are mission-relevant, which means they solve a problem or develop a method with application in the intelligence community. This talk will describe the LAS collaboration model and give examples of LAS projects. Some of the areas where LAS has worked recently include combating human trafficking, characterizing conflict economies, and cybersecurity.
