Abstract:

Using my experience over the last 20 years as a statistician working on weather and climate science topics, I will try to provide examples of when the necessary collaboration with scientists proved fruitful and successful, and what I see as necessary conditions for this type of outcome. I will try to focus specifically on those types of problems that feed naturally into the assessment activities that the IPCC carries out, making sure to clarify, in the process, how these activities are structured and the role that authors in general, and statisticians in particular, might play.
