Abstract:
|
In order to estimate registration functions for a set of functional observations containing landmarks, it is nec- essary to estimate a smooth continuous functions from discrete observations at arbitrarily spaced points in the domain. Ramsay (2001) proposed a penalized smooth- ing approach incorporating a partial differential equa- tion (PDE) to register bivariate functional data. Here we extend this approach by utilizing the proling with parameter cascading procedure outlined in Ram- say et al (2007) to attain statistical inference on the pa- rameters of the PDE and the registered functions from the observed data.
