Abstract:
|
We present an undesirable quality of estimators which we shall call potential absurdity. We will show that even if an estimator is unbiased, it does not prevent that estimator from producing estimates that are absurd, i.e., not in the parameter space. Several examples and potential corrections will be discussed. Future directions include quantifying the extent of the absurdity and incorporating such potential absurdities in undergraduate texts.
