Abstract:

Covariance and variogram functions and estimators have been extensively studied in spatial processes under Euclidean spaces. In this talk, I will discuss some preliminary results on the asymptotic properties for covariance and variogram estimators on the circle. In particular, we will show that although the classical variogram estimator on the circle is unbiased, it is not consistent under Gaussianity. We will extend the results for the axially symmetric processes on the sphere.
