A group of ENVR statisticians who work primarily in non-academic positions gathered for an informal lunch during JSM 2016 to address shared concerns and promote interactions and networking. This year we propose a follow-up meeting with similar agenda that will occur as a roundtable lunch event; goals will be to foster discussion and networking among ENVR members who primarily work outside of statistics departments (this broad umbrella might include many at universities, including those with consulting responsibilities). The roundtable will begin by asking participants to briefly introduce themselves and mention their responsibilities. We then intend to discuss the questions of, How to manage demands for both consulting and research, and How to remain abreast of statistical developments when isolated from universities--and, time permitting, other questions that come up. The roundtable will be facilitated by Megan Higgs, statistician with Neptune & Company, Inc. and formerly with a university; and Kathi Irvine and Brian Gray, research statisticians with the US Geological Survey.
