Abstract #324361
Title: Flexible Hypothesis Testing Method for Clinical Trials Using Composite Endpoint
Author(s): Jin Xu* and David Li
Companies: Merck and Pfizer
Keywords: composite endpoint ; component endpoint ; Type I error control ; study power ; treatment effect ; hypothesis test
Abstract:

Composite endpoint has been used in clinical trial to capture an overall treatment effect across multiple endpoints. A common belief is that if a treatment has favorable effects on several endpoints, a composite endpoint that combines these component endpoints can increase the study's power to detect an overall treatment effort. However, this power increase is not guaranteed as this presentation will demonstrate. Additionally, this presentation will propose a method to test both composite endpoint and main component endpoint as primary while controlling the overall Type I error.
