Abstract:

Sophisticated inferential tools coupled with the coalescent model have recently emerged for estimation of past population sizes from time-stamped samples of genomic data. However, little is known about the efficiency of such estimation methods. We first show some efficiency results under different sampling schemes when the true sample genealogy is known. We then extend our results for unknown genealogy under different mutation models.
