Abstract:

In today's increasingly data-centric and big data era, enterprises and study teams require more real-time data solutions and easy-to-use interfaces for communicating current findings. We will discuss the web-based approach, which provides an easy to access and secure framework for these solutions. This talk will center on creation of dynamic, interactive web applications that can be updated in real time for collaborative use, while maintaining use of cutting-edge statistical methodologies. We will employ R or a scripting language, such as PHP, for direct access to secure databases, such as MySQL. Finally, we will discuss applying R in a semi-interactive fashion for creating visualizations/animations depicting real-time status of observational studies, or for passing data back and forth between web-based technologies and R. The end result is a complete suite of functionality that accomplishes three important goals: (1) Seamless access of big data in a web-based format, (2) Access to cutting edge methodologies developed for R by leading researchers in the field, and (3) Custom-made applications that collaborators can find useful for dissemination of study findings.
