In this talk, I will review the challenges, keys to success, and rewards in four case studies from different situations in my career: (1) Collaborating, at the National Center for Health Statistics, to multiply impute for missing income items in the National Health Interview Survey; (2) A foray into management as Director of NCHS's Division of Research and Methodology; (3) Establishing the ASA's Conference on Statistical Practice as a Vice President of the ASA; and (4) Teaching introductory biostatistics as a faculty member at UCLA. The talk will conclude with a summary of several lessons learned regarding leadership and influence.
