Abstract:
|
In economics it is considered that investment in health is correlated to education or human capital. Consequently, it could be expected that people with lower socio-economic and human capital backgrounds would be more likely to demonstrate higher consumption of substances that are bad for health namely tobacco products and alcohol. We wish to see from a statistical perspective, if socio-economic and human capital variables are enough to predict this behavior in American consumers and if this predictability is stable over time. Multilevel regression with post stratification (Mr.P) analysis will also be explored with the intention to provide reliable state level estimates based on census data taking into account possible confounding effects and correlations of some of the included variables in the analysis.
