Abstract:

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's (RWJF) Culture of Health (COH) vision is made actionable by their national framework, "Building a Culture of Health." We demonstrate a new online tool that provides state-level measures of key topic areas in this framework-including equity, economic, and health and health care-from several federal data sources. This tool expands the health care discussion beyond a coverage-focused federal conversation and allows analysts and policymakers to view state-level data on a wide range of topics through a broader Culture of Health lens. We evaluated a breadth of information on social, economic, health and health care topics and created a site that provides custom tabulations and key measures of social and economic characteristics, health behaviors, health outcomes, health insurance coverage, access to care, utilization, cost, and quality measures. There is substantial variation in measures across states and our new data access tool allows researchers and policymakers to evaluate, visualize, and compare state-level performance on these measures.
