Rockville, Maryland is a city of 67,000 located just outside Washington, DC. The paper discusses the City's uses of federal statistics including data from the American Community Survey, the Census, and other types of information such as housing, CPI, and employment statistics.
The statistical information is used by Rockville's elected officials in their policy making role and by City Staff in their daily work as they implement the City's policies. The presentation will cover how federal statistics are used, what information the City wishes it had, and how these data are used in combination with other sources of information.
The author is a Rockville councilmember. He once was a Federal Government statistician and now works in the private sector. Over his career, he has worked on a number of national surveys including the American Community Survey and the Consumer Expenditure Survey as a contractor. He will give a perspective as a one-time data provider and now as a consumer of federal statistical information. City Staff will contribute to the paper.
