Title: Teaching Statistical Thinking for Healthcare Online
Author(s): April Kerby*

Keywords: statistics education ; online ; healthcare
Abstract:

The idea of taking a statistics class is often daunting for any student, let alone those who are returning to finish (or complete an additional) their degree. In addition to the content, a technology-heavy online course doesn't help students' anxiety level. Statistical Thinking for Healthcare fulfills the statistics requirement for both the RN-BSN Completion and Healthcare Leadership Administration (HLA) programs at Winona State University. A Quality Matters recognized online version of the course was created for the HLA program as this an entirely online program. This talk is aimed at those who are thinking about and/or in the process of creating an online course for adult learners in the healthcare field. This talk will discuss the needs of the adult learner, showcase course design elements, and discuss what worked well, as well as what didn't for this type of course.
