Abstract #322907
Title: Scalable Precision Medicine Through mHealth

Abstract:

The vision for precision medicine is to deliver treatment only if, when, and to whom it is needed to maximize health outcomes at minimal cost. Mobile health (mHealth)holds tremendous potential as a vehicle for precision medicine operating on a public health scale; using a smart mobile device, a patients health status can be monitored in real-time and interventions can be delivered as needed. However, developing precision medicine strategies that operate (at least in part) through mobile devices poses significant methodological and technological challenges. In this roundtable, we will discuss these challenges and the current state-of-the-art for addressing them. While the trajectory of the discussion will depend on the attendees interests, a tentative list of topics are:(i) passive and active data collection; (ii) distal versus proximal outcomes and managing patient habituation; (iii) statistical techniques for online estimation of optimal mHealth interventions; and (iv) cost and computational considerations. Participants will be provided with an annotated bibliography of statistical methodologies for mHealth.
