Since its founding in 2008, the question and answer website Stack Overflow has been a valuable resource for software developers, collecting more than 12 million questions on programming topics. It is also a useful source of data for observing trends in the fast-changing software development industry, such as the recent rise of web and mobile development and the expansion of the data science field. With thousands of technologies being asked about, it's challenging to communicate a complete story through static graphics and statistics. I'll show examples of powerful interactive visualizations that the Stack Overflow data team has created to explore these technologies, their relationships, and how they've shifted over time. These tools have been used to drive decisions within the data team, to help the rest of the company understand our users, and to share insights with the entire developer community.
